Who?

The Fasting Mimicking Diet was developed by Dr Valter Longo who had vastly researched and studied the biological changes that occur when the body is in a fasted state. He developed the FMD as a way for individuals to gain the vast array of health benefits of fasting while still being able to eat.

What?

This 5 day fast involves consuming 1100 calories on the first day and then 800 calories for four days before resuming regular caloric intake.

When?

The frequency of which individuals undertake the FMD is really dependent upon their individual needs or goals. Some may do this once a month or once every three months.

How?

It is advised that no alcohol should be consumed during the 5 days of the FMD and also exercise should be avoided. The foods that can be consumed during the five days are nutrient dense plant rich foods. Foods such as olives, nuts, herbs, spices and teas are permitted. It is low carb, low protein and high fat which is important in order to gain the greatest benefit of the fast.

Why?

The FMD is a regenerative program. It has been shown to repair damaged organs in animal models. The far reaching benefits are listed below:

-Weight loss

-Extend life span

-Improved sleep

-Balances blood sugar

-Improved skin quality

-The stem cells that are in our bone marrow appeared in our blood in higher levels from days 4-6 of FMD which aid with regeneration of the body.
